ENTRY REQUIREMENTS/REGULATIONS

  • The competition is for lieder (art-song) accompanists.
  • The competition is limited to forty candidates.
  • There is no age limit.
  • The entry fee is 275 euro (one payment only for the accompanist ie. not the singer). Should you not be accepted for this competition this fee will be fully reimbursed. Payment can be made by debit/credit card or by bank transfer.
  • Closing date for applications is 15th December 2008
  • Each candidate must provide two written recommendations from two separate professional musicians.
  • All candidates must provide us with a Digital-Tape/DVD/CD recording with a minimum of five minutes, maximum 15 minutes duration, as proof of their work. DVD's must be in European format (PAL) and all recordings must be validated in writing by one of your referees.
  • Each candidate is responsible for all personal travel and hotel costs. We plan to inform you in due course of potentially helpful hotel and accommodation opportunities in Amsterdam.
  • All candidates must abide by the regulations. All decisions made by the independent panel of judges are final.
  • A fully professional attitude is expected of all candidates and their vocalists at all times inside and outside of the competition premises. The governing body reserves the absolute right at any time to disqualify any candidate not observing this from further participation, whether or not this breach is caused by the candidate, or the vocalist or any member of their party.
  • The Competition is run on lines of equal opportunity principles.
  • The competition consists of three rounds; a preliminary round of fifteen minutes performance time, the semi-finals, with different repertoire, of twenty minutes and the final round of thirty minutes, with a free choice of repertoire
  • Repertoire must consist of music that was written specifically for voice and piano and therefore must exclude any opera or oratorio, exceptions are song cycles such as Berg Op 7 and Wagners' Wesendonck Lieder etc. As quality of programming will also be taken into account by the jury, it is recommended that candidates choose a well balanced variety of composers and languages.
  • All contestants must register at the competition office in the Beurs van Berlage on the day of your first round, latest two hours before your scheduled appearance. You must provide an ID card or passport. The address will be posted here as soon as possible.
  • Candidates may not participate in any other professional or other commitments during the duration of the competition. A breach of this rule may lead to an automatic disqualification.
  • Prize-winning accompanists will use their best endeavours at all times to publicize the fact that they are prize-winners in the first Amsterdam International Piano Accompanists' Competition in all their publicity material and programmes, for every performance they give in the five years thereafter.
